I live in South Carolina, and my heart lives in Key West.  I am married to a wonderful military man, and we have 3 children, 1 grandson, 2 dogs and 2 cats.  I stay pretty busy taxiing the kids around to sports, school and parties, but in my alone time, I like to be in complete silence and pretend I live in a cozy hobbit house and can write and dream as much as I want.  When I have free time with the family, we play cards, go to the park, watch movies, play outside and have cookouts.  We don’t travel a lot, but when we do, we go to the beach or amusement parks.

In a former life, I was a registered nurse, a massage therapist, and for the last decade, a real estate closing coordinator.  Oh, what stories I have collected from those experiences…  I am now living my dream.  No, I don’t mean that I live on a tropical island with my own personal chef, yet, but I am living the beginning of my dream.  I left (most of) my real estate job to free up time to write, and I am so blessed to have a supportive husband to allow me to do that.  My stress is so much lower now, as I work at getting more physically fit, making more homemade meals, and spending more quality time with my kids while they’re young and still sweet.

My favorite writer of all time is Stephen King.  Some of my favorite books, for entertainment or inspiration, are anything by King, especially On Writing, A Woman of Substance (Barbara Taylor Bradford), Flowers in the Attic (V.C. Andrews), The Grapes of Wrath (Steinbeck), Fahrenheit 451 (Bradbury), The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (Stephen Covey), One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (Ken Kesey), and The Artist’s Way (Julia Cameron).

I love to listen to music, especially while writing (Bach) or cooking (Jack Johnson) or driving (Sheryl Crow or Janis Joplin’s Bobby McGee) or anything 80’s anytime.  Somehow, “If It Makes You Happy” turns my minivan into a Range Rover.

I feel like a success today for taking the reins on my career, instead of working on advancing someone else’s, but I still long to be a successful, best-selling writer and sell loads of books so that I can have a personal chef.
